The Vanities of the convict/cannibal Alexander Pearce was developed for the Romancing the Skull exhibition at the Ballarat Art Gallery.
Pearce was a renown cannibal escaping twice from 1830’s Tasmanian prisons. On both occasions he survived by murdering and eating his companions. Pearce is renown for exclaiming at his final trial “Human flesh is better than Chicken”.
This 2017 exhibition is documented in detail via a full colour exhibition catalogue including essays from the Romancing the Skull curators.
